Description:

Originally, I wanted to create a mod for myself because I didn’t like the look of the vanilla units. This mod is created with historical accuracy in mind, and I will continue to try to make this as realistic and logical as possible. There is a few reasons why I couldn’t make this completely historically accurate. First of all, I don’t do 3D modelling. There are many pieces of armour that I wish to change the texture for, but I simply cannot do that at the moment. Secondly, some of CA’s units are just plain ridiculous to be historically accurate. Technically speaking, Cohors and Legio should not be different units. So I considered them all to be legio comitatenses and gave them uniform shield designs from comitatenses shield patterns. Instead of having multiple comitatenses units in a single game unit, I figured it would be better to just seperate them. There are also the Tagmata units. I have no idea how the Tagmata units should look for a game set around the 4th century, considering that some of these units shouldn’t even exist at the time. So, for such units, I decided to get a little creative and changed them to my preference. Lastly, the looks of late Roman army is heavily disputed. There are even theories that late Roman army fought without armour due to its weight. I personally don’t believe that late Roman army fought without armour. I do believe that, with a large portion of the army drawn locally for defensive purposes, it is possible that some could not afford armour. So, the mod cotains a few units that have both armour and non-amoured individuals. The only exceptions are guerilla troops like exploratores and praeventores, whom have been reported to be equiped with very light armour or none at all. I have decided to unify the shield design. Realistically, units from different regions should have different shield patterns varying further with positions and type of unit. Since these units are not region specific units, I have selected a few shield designs from the capital regions.

(This mod contains data for ALL Eastern Roman units including the ones I didn’t change. So other reskinned units may become unchanged if this mod is loaded first. Also, some ERE units share models with WRE units. Some WRE units and rebel units will change.)

If anyone can provide assistance or resources, that would be very appreciated. Any advice on that would also be helpful. Any bugs or historical inaccuracy, feel free to point out in the comments. Thank you.
