Revamped character names – Fewer jokes
Features
- Replaces many of the joke names or names that I found unfitting with better ones. If you know Dutch and you’ve played Lizardmen, you know what I’m talking about.
- Edits the .loc tables themselves, making it highly compatible. No blank names for Slann or lords from other mods
- Keeps all the other vanilla names that I didn’t see an issue with. Suggestions are encouraged.
Affected races
- Lizardmen
- Skaven
- Wood Elves
- High Elves
Compatibility
- Should be pretty much anything. Even if another mod makes name changes like this, one will just overwrite the other, and only if the same names are edited.
- Immersive & Loreful Lizardmen & Skaven Names assigns a different name group to the races, so his mod will probably overwrite mine entirely.
Feedback
- Google spreadsheet[docs.google.com] containing all changes and possibly upcoming changes.
It should allow for comments, though I’m not very familiar with sharing google spreadsheets. You can comment here as well. Any change you would like to see, either to something I haven’t yet done or to what I have done, please let me know. I wasn’t at all familiar with the lore before this game, and I’m relying on lore websites and name generators.
Some background info
- Inspired by GunKing’s Loreful names mods and its issues with compatibility, I’ve made my own mod reducing the amount of Dutch name puns in the Lizardmen character name pool.
- In the original mod (Immersive & Loreful Lizardmen & Skaven Names), new name groups are created for Skaven and Lizardmen, which is then linked to the factions in the factions table. Those new name groups contain only a few dozen new names each. This caused some issues with spawned characters and other lord/faction mods like Mixu’s, with names being blank. It also reduces the variety of the Lizards especially, going from hundreds of potential names to 40.
- What I did was make changes in a single .loc table, replacing names that are on the nose Dutch puns or otherwise less fitting, with names from the lore (from GunKing’s mod) and a few of my own from some Warhammer name generator. This should allow for great compatibility with pretty much any mod that doesn’t do exactly the same (not compatible with Gunking’s mod linked above). It also allows the many hundreds of vanilla names that remain to still be in the name pool, offering plenty of variety.
