Do not use this mod with other mods. If you are in doubt about a mod’s compatibility, ask me.

This mod is not yet compatible with Jade Dragon or its accompanying patch. Do not use either with this mod.

This is a standalone submod of Gloria Regni that is focused on the Dark Ages and the Middle Ages. I disliked some of the content Paradox added to Legacy of Rome (The Latin-centric events for instance), so I decided to change a few things. Although this mod originally started off as a simple localisation fix for the Byzantines, it’s slowly morphed into the game enhancement mod it is today. Countless new features have been added to Rome, Byzantium, and other nations, including new flags, over five hundred new events, a new succession mechanic, the Great Schism, and all the changes from my retinue mod, Retinue Boost – An Imperial Revamp Mod. Timeline extensions are planned back to 476, with the first to focus on 702 and the campaigns of Queen Kahina.

Requirements:

– Legacy of Rome
– The Old Gods
– Sons of Abraham
– Charlemagne

Partial Changelog:

Rome/Byzantium:

– Replaced the Roman and Byzantine flags with new versions based on the Roman Chi-Rho symbol (Inspired by the RTW: Barbarian Invasion flags).
– Added Michael III as the Byzantine Emperor in vanilla The Old Gods bookmark. Added a new bookmark called The Macedonian which focuses on Basil I.
– Added in a new succession mechanic for Rome and Byzantium using honorary titles. You can now change your heir at will by granting or removing the title.
– Added appointment mechanics and a new Imperial Dignity CB. The emperor should get all ducal titles providing they have medium crown authority or above.
– Added decisions to convert to Roman culture, build unique walls in Rome, establish a new bodyguard, and reform Orthodoxy into a new centralised Imperial faith.
– Added events to convert to Hellenism. Also included a new holy order called the Heroes of Olympus and a decision to allow emperors to appoint a religious head.
– Added an Imperial Reconquest CB to the Byzantine Empire roughly covering the territory of Justinian’s post-reconquest empire (See here for an approximate map).
– Added an Augusta trait as a female counterpart to the male Augustus trait. Replaced the vanilla Born in the Purple trait with a version which doesn’t affect succession.
– Added an Autokrator trait for Byzantine Emperors. Added an identical Autokrateira trait for female rulers. Both are similar to the vanilla Augstus trait, though weaker.
– Added several new events to both Rome and Byzantium, including events to recruit Foederati soldiers and resume the supply of grain from Egypt to the Empire’s cities.
– Added several new reconquest events covering major cities like London, Ravenna, Damascus and Tangiers, and several conquest events for areas like Persia and Slavinia.
– Added the Aurelian Walls to Rome and unique churches to the pentarch cities. Added a new decision to convert to Catholicism as Byzantium (Requires 100+ papal opinion).
– Added a decision to allow Thessalonika/Trebizond to reform the Varangian Guard if Byzantium no longer exists and they control Constantinople (Requires 300 gold/prestige).
– Added new historical titles for Roman and Greek viceroyal rulers. A Greek viceroy king is termed katepan and rules a katepanate, and a Roman viceroy duke is termed vicarius.
– Changed several of the Greek vassal title names. For example, a Greek count is now termed an archon and rules an archonate, and Greek kingdoms are now termed despotates.
– Replaced the vanilla Despot honorary title with a new Symbasileus (Co-emperor) title. Added a new Nobelissimos title which ranks above Patrikos (Re-named Anthypatos title).

Other Changes:

– Replaced Miaphysitism with the Coptic and Apostolic religions, representing the Egyptian and Armenian churches. Added the Order of Saint Blaise to the Apostolic faith.
– Changed how crown authority works to make it more realistic. Persia and Arabia now start with medium authority, and the Mongol khaganates start with limited authority.
– Renamed the Wendish Empire to Slavinia. Added two new unique religious buildings for the Muslim religions, the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.
– Added decisions to form the Latin Empire, Bulgarian Empire, Serbian Empire, Empire of Trebizond, Empire of Thessalonika, and Despotate of Epirus (Save converter compatible).
– Added the Gothic culture to Cherson to represent the Crimean Goths. The Gothic culture is in the Byzantine culture group and localises Crimea to Theodoro and Taurica to Gothia.
– Added a unique mercenary unit for independent Bulgarian rulers called the Chosen Warriors. Added a hidden event to make sure the unit is always available to the ruler of Bulgaria.
– Added event troops to the Magyars, the Avars, and the Bulgarians in the Charlemagne bookmark. Added a decision allowing crusader states to receive reinforcements from the Pope.
– Added new vassal titles for various nations and cultures. The ruler of Lithuania is now titled grand duke, a Norse emperor is now a great king, and a Russian duke is now titled prince.

Planned:

Integrate Ibn Battuta’s Legacy by elvain.
