By altering the manpower sizes, unit costs and travel speeds of the three land unit types this mod abandons EU4’s traditional one-size-fits-all approach and opens up new possibilities for utilizing cavalry as the invaluable specialists they actually were throughout history. Use your cavalry as raiders striking deep in your enemy’s rear, as scouts to gain superior battlefield intel, or to pursue fleeing broken units. Of course nothing’s ever free in life and that applies double in war, overall the costs associated with conducting war have been increased to a point where great care must be taken to avoid bankruptcy and ruin. Wars will drain your manpower at alarming rates and are quite likely to force you to resort to hiring mercenaries you can ill afford.
Additional gameplay changes include a rebalancing of the mysticism/legalism bonuses and the effects of war taxes. The map changes that were included in an earlier version of this mod have been removed reverting the map back to it’s original vanilla setup (those and additional map changes will be included on a variant of this mod called Costs of War Plus).
