Description:

This is a fairly simple mod that adds a little bit of immersion and does the following:

1. Manual imprisonment of a character:

a) You:

  • if you are "Merciful" — 50% chance to lose it
  • if you are not "Merciful" — 30% chance to get "Cruel"

b) Targeted character:

  • opinion modifier (-50) stays as is in vanilla game while in prison
  • if your friend then gets -30 opinion decaying by 2 for 15 years
  • if not your friend/rival, can be your rival and is "Vengeful" — becomes your rival
  • if not your friend/rival, can be your rival and is neither "Forgiving" nor "Vengeful" — 50% chance to become your rival
  • otherwise gets -10 opinion decaying by 1 for 10 years

2. Releasing a character from prison:

a) You:

  • if you are "Cruel" — 50% chance to lose it
  • if you are not "Cruel" — 30% chance to get "Merciful"

b) Targeted character:

  • vanilla opinion modifier (-50) is removed as in base game
  • gets +15 opinion which decreases by 3 every year for 5 years (can’t exceed 15)
  • if manually imprisoned (not via event) he/she gets -10 opinion which increases by 5 every year for 2 years (cumulative)
  • if rival of ruler and "Forgiving" — 75% chance to end rivalry
  • if rival of ruler and neither "Forgiving" nor "Vengeful" — 25% chance to end rivalry

Reasoning:

Manual imprisonment of people in base game bears no consequencens apart from tiny amount of tyranny. One would say it’s not a merciful act, but developers thought otherwise and even if your character is merciful he/she can imprison people for no reason in all his/hers mercifulness. This mod changes that in an obvious way and via imprisonment of innocent people you can not only lose merciful trait but even gain a cruel one or go the other way around while releasing people from dungeon. Some people will even consider you their rival when unjustly imprisoned, while others may end rivalry on a release day.

Second thing are changes made in an opinion system. In base game characters don’t care if you let them out of prison but this mod adds an abvious positive modifier for such an act of kindness. However, unlike in vanilla I:R people still remember they were unfairly imprisoned and do get a negative thoughts of such injustice. Releasing a character that was imprisoned after an event doesn’t give him a negative opinion.

It is also no longer possible to imprison friends without penalty. While they will still stay your friends because it’s beneficial to them, they will remember your betrayal.
