Introduction & Contents

Greetings, this small combat overhaul makes the following changes.

  • Weapon Damage – Anti-cavalry/elephant bonuses adjusted for almost all weapon types. Roman swords have better armor-piercing, while Greek swords have slightly buffed armor-piercing equal to that of spears. Spears remain the same. Falxes have been given extra bonus vs infantry. Now that’s a lot of damage…
  • Bows – Fire arrows were removed due to not having a healthy utility in terms of gameplay as well as its lack of contribution to historical immersion. All bows now have higher velocity, but much lower trajectories which slightly increase through the levels to reflect how Eastern archery tended to fire higher.
  • Rank Depth – Minimum rank depth was reduced for almost all unit types. Melee units now have a minimum rank depth of 3 units deep, with missile units, elephants, and cavalry having a minimum rank depth of 2 units deep. Now you can stretch out your units much wider than usual.

Installation & Compatibility
  • To install, first subscribe to this mod, and place this mod above the 3 DEI parts in the mod launcher.
  • If you have other submods for DEI which you want to play with, place this mod immediately above the 3 DEI parts, and place those submods above this mod if they edit anything that has to do with combat
  • This mod is save game compatible, and will likely be compatible with all future versions of DEI. I will update this mod should the combat system of vanilla DEI be overhauled once more.
  • Although this mod will be multiplayer compatible, multiplayer in R2 is often a very buggy process that I will not be able help much should it become an issue. All I can say regarding this is make sure both parties have the identical setup and mod load order when attempting multiplayer.

Credits

All of the texts and entries used in making this submod are not my original work, and are credited to the DEI team.
I have merely rearranged & edited existing content from DEI and the R2 native files to create this submod.
Seriously, go make a donation for DEI or something. The project deserves it.
