“Arise, children of the Fatherland, The day of glory has arrived!” – La Marseillaise

To commemorate the victory over the Russian and Austrian forces in 1805, Napoleon commissioned the construction of “a great sculpture” in 1806 to welcome the triumphant return of French soldiers. On 15th August of the same year, the construction began with the designs of the famous architect Jean Chalgrin. However, the construction was interrupted after the defeat of Napoleon. The construction restarted only after the Bourbon Dynasty was overthrown. The Arc de Triomphe was finally inaugurated on July 29, 1836, after 30 years of intermittent construction.

Great Generals have an additional charge. When a Great General is retired, land units within 2 tiles heal up to 50HP. Must be built on flat tiles in cities with a Military Academy. +5 Culture +5 Great General points per turn. Unlocked at Military Science Wonder Music: La Marseillaise
