The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, was the military force of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan from 1978 until its collapse in 1992. Following President Mohammad Najibullah’s National Reconciliation Act in 1986, it was renamed into the Armed Forces of the Republic of Afghanistan. They were involved in the Soviet-Afghan war of the 1980’s waged against the Afghan mujahidin (who would eventually force the U.S.S.R to withdraw from Afghanistan).
