Description:

A hopefully faithful recreation of the much-loved, if historically questionable unit from the original Rome: Total War.

Romanized argyraspides or "Silver Shield Legionaries", are equipped and trained in mimicry of what returning Seleucid rulers might have seen on Mars field during time spent in Rome:

– weapons are gladius, pila and scutum
– flying wedge, testudo and shield wall are available
– added late armour and helmets in the Roman fashion which may be revised, changed colours out etc.

This was a personal mod which I thought someone else might enjoy. It restores the legionary "knock-offs" we had in Rome: Total War, and is largely for the purpose of enjoyment as opposed to historical accuracy. It was ripping good fun using the array of units in the original game’s Seleucids, and I wanted to be able to do it again.

Romanization includes some late technology which I could say is meant to make this a unit able to contend with the Roman legionary in the long run, as the Seleucid Empire progresses in world domination throughout the whole time-frame (probably assimilating successful military techniques like the Romans)… really, though, I just wanted them to look and feel as much like the originals as possible.

In the campaign, these are available as a general unit, then later in the game when you have built Royal Barracks (IV) They don’t replace Silver Shield Swordsmen, and can be used alongside them if you wish.

Update:

A few people have asked for features that are easy to add, but I wasn’t sure they should *all* go in the mod – so here are some add-ons you can install over this mod:

Add-ons

You can ignore these and the mod will work fine, they’re just there if you want them.

Extra abilities – adds battle rhythm and defensive testudo (alongside the testudo the legionaries already have)

Early Recruitment – recruit the legionaries from turn 1 if you wish instead of later in the game

Larger Units units are cohort-sized: eg 480 men

Solid Infantry Square

Hollow Infantry Square
