Description:

This mod adds in various monsters from the Bravely Default series (and some from Final Fantasy 4 Heroes of Light) to the game that can appear in your world. Specifically ’30’ different creatures, two being megabeast!

As Bravely Default is a JRPG, it has early game monsters reappear later in the game with different textures and names as higher leveled variants. Most of the creatures in this mod have different variants part of the same ‘family’. Some may be caste of each other, to allow all of them to breed, or may be a different creature all together, and appear in different biomes. For the sake of that earlier ’30 different creatures’ number, the different variants of each ‘family’ are all considered the same ‘creature’.

Since these creatures are from an RPG, I’ve tried to recreate their abilities from the game within Dwarf Fortress’ engine. So expect to see lots of monsters that buff themselves, or cast various forms of magic.

Bravely Default orders it’s creatures into ‘classes’ in it’s bestiary, like ‘aquatic’, ‘undead’ or ‘insect’. All creatures here have their classes defined, and have weaknesses to certain weapon materials depending on said class, and take 3x as mch damage from them.

All UNDEAD, SPIRIT, and DEMONKIND creatures are weak to silver. All AQUATIC and INORGANIC creatures are weak to iron. All INSECTOIDS, PLANTKIND, and AERIAL are weak to copper. All DRAGONKIND and BEAST are weak to steel. HUMANOIDs have no weakness.

Q&A

Mod compatibility?
All of the creatures in this mod have their IDs prefixed with "BD_", so on the off chance another mod adds a creature with the same name, they won’t conflict.

Can this mod be added/removed in an existing world?
No. It adds new creatures/materials, which always required a new world/save.

Does this mod need to be loaded anywhere specific in load order?
Note that this mod uses select tokens to give each of the vanilla races access to a golem as a pet, and humans d’gon access. As such, this mod must be loaded after vanilla_entities, and after any mod that cuts and replaces vanilla entities. If you’re unsure, just load it at the very bottom.

Can I use this mod’s assets for my own projects?
Feel free to use any part of this mod. Though if using the sprites, I’d like to be credited somewhere.
