Description:

Alsthom CC7100
===============================================
Alsthom Series CC7100 – an DC electric locomotive, which was manufactured by the <<Alsthom>> works for the SNCF (French State Railraods) from 1952 till 1955. It was one of the first high horsepower universal electric locomotives on bogey chassis in Europe. Originally designed for limited express trains, it was later relegated to goodstrain duties, where it proved just as good. It operated in France till the year 2001. An notable chapter in it’s operaing history is the fact, that two locomotives of such type (running numers CC7121 and CC7107) fitted with extra streamlined schelds and non-standard final drive were used in railroad speed record test runs. In 1955 No. CC7107 reached 331km/h, which was an valid record for locomotives till 2006! The CC7100 proved that bogey chassis is superior compared to rigid-frame chassis.
===============================================
Alsthom CC7100 was such an succesful design, that it served as an basis for development of various export electric locomotives – both DC and AC, produced till 1972. – Series 1300 for Netherlands (DC), Series 7600/276 for Spain (DC, Operated till 2014!), Series 6Y2 and Series 6G for China (AC), Series F for USSR (AC) and series E800 for Morocco (DC). An notable fact is the series F helped to kickstart the Soviet AC electric locomotive industry, as the first mass-produced soviet AC electric locomotive – the Series VL60 (AKA Series N60) had some of it’s electric installations based on the installations from the Series F
===============================================
An experimental multisystem locomotive – CC20001 also was developed on the basis of the CC7100. The same carbody was also utilised in an special-purpose diesel locomotive for operation in deserts
