Description:

This mod unlocks and incorporate a new unit in the classical age, The Throwing Axeman.

A new range-unit type that was introduced in Brave New World but is currently reserved for barbarians.

Features:
  • Adds a new ranged unit: The Throwing Axeman, to the game, which was inspired by the new barbarian-only ranged unit ‘Hand-axe’ introduced in Brave New World Expansion.
  • This ranged unit is comparable to other unit of this era in term of strength but has its own speciality. It has a little more combat strength and defense than Composite Bowman and is 33% more resistant to ranged attack, but has only 1 range.
  • This unit choose his promotions from the ranged unit promotion list when he level up, enabling him at high level to gain +1 range.
  • The Throwing Axeman can be built when Construction is discovered and can be upgraded to crossbowman, just like Composite Bowman.
  • The barbarian ‘Hand-axe’ unit have been replaced by the throwing axeman.
  • This unit was made from Scratch and was balanced and then the 3d model and icons of the ‘Hand-axe’ unit was applied to it.
  • This unit is properly flavored and the correct AI script have been attached to It, so the Ai will use it if it fits their flavor profile.
  • The 3d model is perfectly integrated since it comes from fireaxis, you can actually see the Axemans throwing their axes.
  • All these changes are reflected in Civilopedia (see screenshot)
Notes:
    This mods fits well with the ‘Classical Era Mod’ , if you are interested: Classical Era Mod
    This mod is fully compatible with the ‘Promotion Expansion pack’, meaning the new units will uses the promotions from the pack if the 2 mods are enabled. If you are interested: Promotion Expansion pack Mod

Unit Details:
    Throwing Axeman
  • New ranged unit available in classical era wich specialises in taking out enemy archers.
  • It has a better combat strength than Composite Bowman (but still much less than swordmans), and has the ‘Cover I’ promotion for free (+33% defense vs ranged attack).
  • The throwing axeman has only 1 range, wich can later be upgraded with promotions. As a ranged unit, it cannot melee attack just like Bowman.
  • Can be later upgraded to Crossbowmans.
  • Unlocked with the technology ‘Construction’ at the same time as Composite Bowman.
  • Uses the 3dModel and icons from Brave new world barbarian-only unit ‘Hand-axe’ and replace this barbarian unit with the Throwing Axeman also.

  • If you have troubles downloading the mod in game, it’s a common cache issue, follow these steps to fix it:
    1) Unsubscribe The mod, exit steam and civ 5 completly
    2) empty your mod folder : C:Documents and Settings[YOUR USERNAME]My documentsMy GamesSid Meier’s Civilization 5MODS
    3) Delete the ‘Civ5ModsDatabase.db’ file located at: C:Documents and Settings[YOUR USERNAME]My documentsMy GamesSid Meier’s Civilization 5cache
    4) Restart steam, subscribe, restart civ 5.
