On the eve of the famed Operation Hastings, USMC central command had begun to deploy several elite reconnaissance units into the Western sectors of Quang Tri province, I-Corps, encountering a build-up of NVA forces bolstered by local guerrillas.
Step into the well-worn boots of Lieutenant James ‘Slim-Jim’ Vega and lead the brave Marines of Recon team ‘Cutlass’ as they venture deep behind enemy lines to observe, engage and sabotage North Vietnamese forces in the harsh jungles of Vietnam. Death lurks around every corner, from unforgiving two-step snakes to cruel booby-traps, you must navigate your team to safety all while accomplishing the missions your superiors have entrusted to you.

Thanks for checking out my first mission released for Arma 3! The plan is to release more missions in the story of Team Cutlass and then package them all together into a campaign that will include cinematic intros and outros as well as professional voice acting.
Any feedback and criticism is accepted and appreciated, as well as bug reports and historical or military inaccuracies! I am not a current or former Marine and if there are any inconsistencies or anachronisms please do let me know. I am still very new to modding and mission editing in general so any pointers would be welcome.

Welcome to Operation Pinstripe, Lieutenant. Here’s the skinny:
Since early June of 1966, we’ve had increased reports of VC milita activity in the sectors West of the Song Ngan river. Elements of local Viet-Cong have been bolstered by VC regulars and we now believe that units of the NVA’s 324th Division are moving into the area.
We also have intel that suggests the VC are using several of the villages in this sector as training facilities and supply depots along the Eastern-most branches of the Ho Chi Minh trail. We need to confirm these reports and do what we can to slow their reinforcement of the area. In preparation for a major operation, Marine Recon units are being deployed to gather intel, probe enemy readiness, and sabotage any major outposts in the sector.
We expect you will encounter lightly armed VC guerrillas for the most part. They shouldn’t be on high alert as you will be operating well behind enemy lines and as far as we know they have little or no support assets in the designated NFZ. Once they get wind of your presence, however, expect them to call in reinforcements from the nearby VC and NVA units.
Your team is going to be a vital part of the effort to hinder enemy incursions South of the DMZ and into Quang Tri Province. Let’s get it done.

TIPS & TRICKS
1. If any of your men get stuck, they are each classified as playable so you can use team switch to get them out of their stuck position. This will not effect leadership or scripts.
2. Maestro (your XO) carries 4x explosive charges in his pack and there are several others in the various caches you will find in case you run out.
3. Both Maestro and Hung have the ability to disarm mines and traps. If playing with ACE you may have to use explosives to detonate a few.
4. Maestro, Needles and Wishbone are the only units with suppressors, which you can order them to take off or reattach at any time through the action menu. The rest of your team do not carry them so keep them on safe if you want to stay quiet.
5. The simple revive system used in this mission will periodically remove units from the group. This will correct itself after a few seconds, so be patient. Friendly units can be killed but only in rare circumstances or from excessive damage.
6. If you are using ACE mod it is recommended that you turn off unconsciousness mode or turn off ACE medical entirely. The revive system will still work.
7. The rear insertion boat can work as an Arsenal in case you need any gear you are missing (eg. ACE gear like tools/earplugs, etc.). There is also a trap kit in the forward boat if you want the a little more trap safety.
8. If using ACE it is also recommended you turn off ammo cook-off as it may interfere with some objectives (though when testing I found it just took longer to register the destruction of a cache).
KNOWN ISSUES
1. AI can get stuck on environmental objects like the village huts and have trouble traversing water. They are all playable so you can switch to them and get them out of a jam if they get confused.
2. The extraction helicopter might seem to take off prematurely during the finale, but don’t worry, it will land again and give you and your men an opportunity to board it.
3. Very occasionally when team-switching, the timescale will get stuck in slow-motion. Simply use the + and – keys to correct this by setting the timescale back to x1.0.
4. Sometimes when the village Honcho joins your group, he will need a little added motivation in order to move from his spot. The bottom the stairs of those huts are a common sticking place for AI, so if that happens, just teamswitch to him and move him away from his hut.
