As an oarboat that uses a hybrid drive of the oars, the Galleass is more dependent on sails than Calais, as the Calais are also larger and heavier than Calais. Galleass usually had a displacement of more than 600 tons, and some giant Galleass even had a displacement of more than 1,000 tons, making it a giant in the Mediterranean Sea at the time. With its "unparalleled" size, Galleass can carry several times more artillery and armed personnel than traditional Calais ships, and its greatest advantage is firepower and strength. Artillery was usually concentrated in the bow turret and stern ends, and in the early days of Galleass there were only about 20 guns, but by the 17th century they were strengthened to 30-40 guns to accommodate the pursuit of firepower in naval warfare.
Galleass’s tactics are simple yet effective, starting with powerful firepower (large guns in the bow) to weaken the enemy (a critical blow) before a traditional broadside battle, and then even ramming the enemy’s hull with a large metal ramming angle. If neither of these strikes is effective, a large number of armed men on board the ship can also be sent aboard the enemy ship to deliver the final blow with swords and crossbows.
