Description:

This mod will allow you to exchange gold for heirlooms and vice versa. However, the exchange rate when using/acquiring gold is more expensive. Comet shards cannot be purchased with gold, but they can be sold for it. Vanilla exchange rates (heirlooms for heirlooms) remain untouched.

Details

Economy in Darkest Dungeon is a little strange because there is no right answer as to what is a balanced amount/rate. Instead it’s more a question of how much grind you want. This mod is a compromise between vanilla and other exchange mods. You can buy heirlooms with gold but at a significantly reduced exchange rate.

I like the idea of being able to sell heirlooms if cash is needed in the early game and reducing the grind of the late game when it comes to acquiring districts. However, gold is the easiest resource to accumulate, especially when you have a bank (which gives you 5% interest every week). So reducing the exchange rate of gold feels appropriate. Comet shards have a unique method of acquisition so I did not add the ability to buy them with gold (I’d recommend using Farmstead Plus for a new location to farm shards).

Gold exchanges for 33% of its value (based on a antiquarian’s gold stack size of 2,500) into heirlooms. Heirlooms and comet shards exchange for 66% of their value into gold (based on a gold stack of 1,500). Examples:

  • 2,500 gold -> 2 deeds
  • 6 deeds -> 1,000 gold
  • 3 comet shards -> 250 gold

Note: The vanilla exchange rate, heirloom-to-heirloom, is 66% based on inventory stack size

Thanks Garphyield for his mod which was the inspiration for my own and for allowing me to use his recolored arrow assets! Thanks Red Hook for a great game!
