Map of Nauru (unpopulated)
A realistic map of Nauru.
Nauru is a small country (the third-smallest country in the world behind Vatican City and Monaco) that consists of a single island on the Pacific Ocean.
Although its small size, Nauru has a very fascinating history. The island used to be a colony of Germany, the United Kingdom and Japan. It is very rich in phosphate deposits, which made Nauru one of the richest countries in the world in the 60s. However, as this resource has been slowly drying up, this tiny state experienced a harsh fall. The population was left largely unemployed and mining has destroyed the environment of the tiny island. Nowadays, Nauru is not exempt from problems, it’s the most obese country in the world (with an obesity rate of 71,7%!), and recently it was used as a detention camp for immigrants coming to Australia, which also supports Nauru financially. This micro-state has never been communist or had a socialist revolution; however, I thought it was a good idea to implement it to the game because of its unusual context.
Because the game doesn’t have a phosphate mining and production mechanic, I replaced it with bauxite. You won’t find any other resources on this map. Now you can build a true bauxite-dependent economy and export aluminium to the world! The map is unpopulated and doesn’t have any buildings, so you might have a tough time setting everything up from scratch. However, the landscape is mostly flat, with a small lake – Buada Lagoon, in the south-west. It’s a very nice roleplay idea with building a unique micro-state.
