BTR-80a
The BTR-80A (aka GAZ-59031) is a modification of the Soviet BTR-80 armored personnel carrier. The BTR-80 was developed taking into account the experience of using the previous vehicles of the series, the BTR-60 and BTR-70, under peacetime and combat conditions of the Afghan war. Thus, the vehicle received a new power plant in the form of a 260-horsepower diesel engine, reinforced armor, improved embrasures for small arms of the paratroopers and other improvements. The main armament of the BTR-80 remained a large-caliber machine gun, but due to the low effectiveness of machine gun fire against modern lightly armored targets, an improved version with a 30 mm 2A72 autocannon was introduced in 1993 under the designation BTR-80A.
