Description:

Adds the Swarm, led by the Queen of Blades, to the game.

This Version only works with the Classic Version of the game.

Rising Tide Version: –
Codex Version: –

Balanced to be used with the Awesome Sponsors (Classic) Overhaul Mod.
It works without it, but will likely feel a bit overpowered.

This Sponsor is inspired by the Zerg from Blizzards Starcraft Franchise. This is NOT a "Full Alien Conversion!"-Sponsor however, it is a Sponsor that has Alien Elements to it.

The Swarm

This probably not-so-canon Sponsor is an aggressive, early-game-focused Civilization. It excels in overwhelming Enemies early on and has great Recon-Abilities. 3 unique Buildings, all coming with a Broodmother, to make sure that the Swarm grows to glory.

The Bonuses

Zergling
Zerglings (14 Attack) periodically spawn for free during the earlier part of the game – a total of 10 Units in 100 turns (scaling with game speed). Zerglings don’t cost any maintenance.

Overlord
Slow, sloooow (1 Movement) hovering Unit with fantastic Vision sight, but can’t attack. A great tool to oversee big areas and cover the borders of your hopefully sprawling empire from a save distance. Overlords don’t cost Maintenance. A midgame-building increases their Movement Speed by +2, making them a great recon-unit even far outside of your own territory.

Unique Infrastructure
3 unique Buildings are available:

Spawning Pool
– Replaces Ultrasonic Fence
– 1 Broodmother Specialist
– Prevents aliens from entering within 2 tiles of your Cities
– Spawns a Zergling when completed

Larvae Hatchery
– Replaces Mass Digester
– 1 Broodmother Specialist
– +2 Food
– Overlords gain +2 Movement (multiple buildings don’t stack)

Changeling Broodchamber
– Replaces the Spy Agency (unique)
– 2 Broodmother Specialists
– Changelings act as spies for the Swarm

AI Abilities and Inabilities

The AI plays this sponsor quite well, it does construct the unique buildings and will use the Zerglings. It does NOT produce Overlords however, because the AI seems to be incapable of understanding what it means that a Unit "can’t attack".

IMPORTANT: This mod edits Unit Builds and is affected by a bug the game has – unit commands will not show correctly. To prevent this you have to return to the mod selection screen after the game has configured the game files (just hit escape) once after launching the game – it will then work for the rest of the session. Unfortunately there’s nothing I can do about that – it’s a bug that Firaxis has to fix.
