MiG-29A Fulcrum

After around a year of on and off development, I present to you the MiG-29A ‘Fulcrum’. The Fulcrum is a relatively lightweight point defense fighter meant to deal with incoming airborne threats and return to base. As such it carries primarily air-to-air armaments and has somewhat short legs, with a max flight time for my recreation reaching around 10 minutes without WEP. I’ve done extensive work to make your experience flying this jet as smooth as possible, as I was extremely tired of seeing clunky workshop jets with little to no thought put into controls and abysmal handling that felt closer to a UFO than a fighter jet. You also shouldn’t need a college degree to start it up.
The Mikoyan MiG-29 (Russian: Микоян МиГ-29; NATO reporting name: Fulcrum) is a twin-engine fighter aircraft designed in the Soviet Union. Developed by the Mikoyan design bureau as an air superiority fighter during the 1970s, the MiG-29, along with the larger Sukhoi Su-27, was developed to counter new U.S. fighters such as the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle and the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon. The MiG-29 entered service with the Soviet Air Forces in 1982.
- Turn Rate: 12 G’s instantaneous, 9 G’s continuous.
- Max Speed: ~180m/s without afterburner, 210 with. For extra speed, install jet exhausts (w/ is up to 240 m/s).
- Fuel: 4600+ L before drop tanks.
- Armaments: (2x) NNTC KONTOS, (4x) Type 1 Block II SAM/A2AM, Light Autocannon.
- Radar: 15KM search-only radar.
- Misc Flight Equipment: Roll dampening, Non-linear throttle for ground taxi, Steerable front gear.
- Countermeasures: 14x Chaff, RWR.
- Fuel consumption is heavy, refrain from abusing afterburner.
- Get some speed before pulling back on the stick before takeoff, the landing gear can sometimes start to buckle.
- Startup is just a matter of flipping power / APU.
- I’m aware the artificial horizon is backwards compared to the real thing, but the real thing gives me brain pain.
- Mouse aim only works in first person. Normal WASD controls still work but now eyes left/right induces roll and eyes up/down induces pitch.
- Gear has only been tested with medium and up physics quality. Expect bad times at low quality.
- Make sure you have your master weapons arm switch on before attempting to fire.
- I don’t recommend using the gun. It’s more there to say it’s there.
- Blank buttons don’t do anything in cockpit, neither does throttle.
- PLEASE SET MONITOR QUALITY TO HIGH IN SETTINGS.
The radar screen presents a top down view with the top being ~15km out and the bottom being directly infront of the user. Targets will slowly move towards you as you approach. Expect a bit of a spasm with an excessive number of targets present.
