Tired of the repetive nature of CK3, where you either flood the battlefield with troops from some random empire you married your 16th daughter off to or from 20 random dukes because you had 20 kids? Alternatively, you get attacked by a minor noble who calls in three kings who was able to marry kids off to using hooks?
No more!
- Marriage and Negotiated Alliances are now Defensive Alliances, meaning you can only call them to wars where you are the defender
- Other alliance restrictions are still in place, meaning those allies won’t join factions, etc.
- There is a new character interaction where you can ask your allies to join into a Full, Aggressive Alliancew, which will allow you to call them into your aggressive wars.
- You can tell these allies apart as their COA/Shield in the Diplomacy window will have a glowing star above it
- If you attack an AI ruler and call in a foreign ally, the AI ruler’s lieges will join the war to defend their soverign territory.
- OK, so this can get a little complicated, so here are some examples:
- 1. You are High Lord Walter Frey in the Riverlands and you marry one of your many daughters off to Balon Greyjoy, creating an alliance. You then give him money and sway him and he agrees to become a full, aggressive ally. You then get a claim on Seagard and attack the Mallisters. You call in the Iron Islands to your aggressive war. In this instance, because the Mallisters of Seagard of AI, the Tully’s will automatically join the war on the side of the Mallisters since the Freys called in a foreign ruler into the Tully’s lands, violating the Tully’s sovereignty. However, the Iron Thron won’t join the war because the Tullys and the Greyjoys are both their vassals.
- 2. You are a count in Dorne under a High Lord. So your have three lieges above you: Your High Lord, Your Lord Paramount, and the Iron Throne. Through some smart game play and using hooks, you get a marriage between your heir and a daughter of the ruler of Tyrosh and are able to turn it into a full, aggressive alliance by utilizing a strong hook. You then go to war with your High Lord for his title and call in your Tyrosh ally. In this instance, because the Tyrosh ruler does not share any Liege with you, all your lieges will join the war, meaning your High Lord will have the Dorne LP and the King of the IT join the war to repel the foreign Tyrosh army.
- NOTE: Liege are only auto-added to wars where the defender is the AI. If you are the defender, you will need to right-click on each of your lieges and ask them to join.
- AI: The AI can call allies as normal. The reason for this is pretty simple. AI can’t actually use character interactions like players do, so they will never form "full, aggressive alliances". This would severely reduce the AIs ability to go to war. Since the AI doesn’t spam marriages for alliances, this isn’t really an issue.
- The ability to call House Members and Diarchs/Regents is unchanged. You can call those folks to your aggressive wars as normal since that’s a separate mechanic apart from allies.
I will be uploading more images of the interaction menus, new letter interactions, etc with all the new features soon.
