M36 Jackson
This mod aims to add the WW2-era M36 Jackson tank destroyer in several variants. The M36 was developed in the later stages of World War II as a replacement for the already obsolete M10 tank destroyer. The aim was to have a tank destroyer with sufficient armor and firepower to efficiently defeat the heavier German tanks that were becoming commonplace in Northwestern Europe, such as the Tiger or the Panther. This mod adds the following variants and custom liveries:
– M36 tank destroyer: This was basically an M10 hull with a new turret mounting a 90mm gun. It was first issued in September 1944, first entered combat in October, and virtually replaced all M10s in service by the end of the war.
- US 1944: Based on the 701st Tank Destroyer Bn., generic US livery for missions set before or even during the Battle of the Bulge.
- US 1944 Winter: A white camouflage for missions set during the Battle of the Bulge.
- US 1945: Based on the 607nd Tank Destroyer Bn., generic US livery for missions set during the 1945 invasion of Western Germany.
– M36B2 tank destroyer: This was an improvement over the basic M36 Jackson. The most notable upgrades include a muzzle brake and the addition of an armoured top cover (which you can actually toggle in-game). It arrived too late to see combat in World War II (May 1945), but it was used by several armies in various Cold War conflicts. The following skins only represent the countries that did use the M36B2 in combat:
- US: Generic US livery. Heavily used during the Korean War, supplementing the M26 Pershing and M46 Patton tanks. This skin is also valid for the ROK Army, which treated the M36 as a tank.
- France: Generic livery for the RBCEO in 1951, the only French armour unit in Indochina equipped with the M36B2. The French usually added a Browning .30 cal on top of the armoured cover, but this isn’t represented by this mod.
- Pakistan: Generic livery for Pakistani armoured vehicles in the era. It was heavily used in the Indo-Pakistani wars of 1965 and 1971, mostly in the former.
- Serbia: Based on one example of an M36 Jackson used in combat during the Yugoslav wars. Can also serve as a Yugoslav M36, since the green paint was standard for Yugoslav armoured vehicles. Yugoslavia actually eventually swapped the M36’s engine for a T-55 engine, but this mod doesn’t reflect that.
- Slovenia: Based on one example of a Territorial Defense M36 used during the 1991 Ten-Day War.
- Bosnia: I haven’t found any examples of Bosnian M36s, so I’ve based this livery on an example of a Bosnian M18 Hellcat of the 7 Brigada Sijad Alic used during the Bosnian War. It is worth noting that none of the Yugoslav successor states had standard vehicle camos, with many units painting their vehicles however they liked.
- Croatia: Based on one example of the Dubrovnik brigade used during the Croatian War of Independence.
This is my very first vehicle, so be nice :). Granted, it could be a whole lot better, but I am satisfied with what I’ve accomplished so far. Practice makes perfect, or so they say. I am planning to add the M36B1 as well, but since that one is actually based on a Sherman hull, that will have to wait for now. I wanted to get these two models out for the time being. This requires the Spearhead DLC, but you don’t need to buy it. You should be able to use this mod with just the compatibility data patch.
– The model is very low-poly, I know. The hull is from an Arma 2 mod and the turret is from a free model, but it is what it is.
– The shadow doesn’t look great, but at least it works
– I’m not a great texture maker as you can probably guess, I’ve done my best. Feel free to create retextures if you want to
– All crew members are floating, most notably the M2 gunner when the main turret is turned
– For whatever reason, the M2 gunner seat works just fine, but it doesn’t appear as a seat in the Editor
– The brake lights don’t work anymore, they worked before I added the custom camos lol
– Since this is inherited from Spearhead’s M10, sometimes an M10 turret will spawn and go flying if the ammo racks are blown up
– The object-specific Editor options don’t work, don’t bother with them
I do NOT claim ownership of ANY of these 3D models. All rights belong to their respective authors.
– Hull ported from Rip31st’s 31st Normandy mod for Arma 2
– Turret from: https://done3d.com/m36-tank-destroyer/
– M2 machine gun from Arma 2 Samples
