SNCF Y8000 / 8400 – Locotracteur
The Y 8000 are SNCF locotractors built by Moyse, between 1977 and 1980 then by Fauvet Girel. They were equipped with a 300hp Poyaud engine and are limited to 60 km/h.
From 2001 onwards, the Y 8000s are fitted with the FRET livery, replacing the original arzens one. Some of them will be given to the Infrastructure pole and will have a specific livery, in addition to the so-called ‘ghost’ livery or the livery of certain traction establishments such as Quattre-Mares.
Direct successors to the Y 8000, the 8400s have all the same constructional solutions. However, they are equipped with remote control equipment, which can be used for shunting on the humps of marshalling yards, as well as Automatic Watch and Control equipment (V.A.C.M.A., nicknamed the ‘dead man’).
These 2 series are assigned to the shunting service in stations, traction establishments and marshalling yards. They also provide some local short-distance services.
