ÖBB 5047/5147
From 1987 the ÖBB procured 100 pieces of the 5047 series and 5 pieces of the 5147 series double railcars, short coupled with two final driver’s cabs for use on Austria’s branch lines. Designed for one-man operation without a train attendant, the economy of the branch lines was increased and the railcar was also called the `savior of the branch lines`. From 2005, this series was replaced by the new vehicles series 5022 (Siemens Desiro), from 2011 seven trains to the Raaberbahn (GySEV), which already had a number of identical trains, and to this day the railcars form the backbone of numerous branch lines in Austria.
