ÖBB 2043/2143:
In order to displace the last steam locomotives, ÖBB procured light universal long-distance diesel locomotives from 1964 onwards, 77 of the 2043 series from Jenbacher Werke and 77 of the 2143 series from SGP. The only difference between the two types was the modified fan grille and roof structures. Due to the low axle pressure, they were primarily designed for the branch lines in both passenger and freight transport.
The use of the last robust machines at ÖBB only ended in spring 2020, and these locomotives continue to be used by some private railway companies.
