Steam Train Э series
Russian and Soviet freight steam locomotive, the first 0-5-0 steam locomotive in Russia.
The model was developed in 1909 by order of the private Vladikavkaz Railway by railway engineer Vaclav Lopushinsky. A notable role in the history of the E-series steam locomotive was played by Professor N. L. Shchukin, who, being a comrade of the Minister of Railways and chairman of the Rolling Stock and Traction Commission at the Engineering Council of the Ministry of Railways, resisted as much as possible its appearance and slowed down the introduction, in every possible way contributing to the promotion of his locomotive.
However, his consistent tightening of the requirements for the E project undoubtedly contributed to its improvement — although it stalled the start of production of E at state-owned factories for at least three years (from 1909 to 1912). Moreover, at Shchukin’s insistence, at all state—owned factories, in parallel with the production of E, the completely aimless production of the Shch series was maintained – until 1918.

Модель разработана в 1909 году по заказу частной Владикавказской железной дороги инженером путей сообщения Вацлавом Лопушинским. Заметную роль в истории паровоза серии Э сыграл профессор Н. Л. Щукин, который, будучи товарищем министра путей сообщения и председателем Комиссии подвижного состава и тяги при Инженерном совете МПС, сопротивлялся по мере сил его появлению на свет и тормозил внедрение, всячески содействуя продвижению своего паровоза.
Однако последовательное ужесточение им требований к проекту Э, несомненно, способствовало его улучшению — хотя застопорило начало выпуска Э на казённых заводах не менее чем на три года (с 1909 по 1912). Более того, по настоянию Щукина на всех казённых заводах параллельно с выпуском Э сохранялся и совершенно уже бесцельный выпуск серии Щ — вплоть до 1918 года.
