Description:

This is a population overlay that covers the entire range of supported density levels, with 2000 gradient colors. I believe each level corresponds to 1 additional person/tile in density, thus density here varies from 1 to 2000 people/tile. To my knowledge all other currently available population mod overlays only cover the first 350 levels, which is generally sufficient for most cities but not those with high density of population such as New York, Beijing, New Delhi, etc. Thus highly dense areas end up looking "burnt out" in whatever is the last color used.

Because most cities do not exceed (or just have small pockets of areas) with over 350 people/tile, the color gradients are not linear, with more color grades at lower density levels, where the color changes noticeably every 25 steps. At higher density colors change more gradually and above density of ~500, there are really just shades of cyan and neon green. I have included in screenshots two versions of the color palette I used for best illustration – (i) unadjusted colors and (ii) transparent colors – all colors for the mod are set to 75% transparent (the first 25 are 65% transparent to dim them a little bit).

In simplified terms the colors transition as follows: gray – blue – purple – magenta – pink – red – orange – yellow – white – cyan – neon green.

Compared to my 350 color gradient, there is a slight color shift with introducing more shades of red, shifting the red/yellow and yellow/white transition to higher densities.
