Aristotle’s Categories
Would you like to have more events added to the game to increase variety? This mod has been built with carefully balanced events that can be added into any game, even multiplayer!
SUMMARY: This is an event pack inspired by Aristotelian philosophy, especially logic, physics, and metaphysics. Events are inspired by Aristotle’s works, but are thematically weaved into gameplay – you might not even realize you’re learning philosophy and becoming wiser with each event that triggers from this mod!
BALANCE: All events have been designed to be carefully balanced and in line with the original game balancing. For this reason, this mod can be incorporated into any and all games without any concerns regarding game balance. Turn this mod on and let it be passively active in the background for every game you play. Every now and then you might get an interesting event that is more philosophical in nature.
COMPATIBILITY: This mod is compatible with all expansions and should be compatible with virtually all mods. It simply adds to the base game.
DEVELOPMENT: This mod has been tested with no issues; please advise if you run into any problems. Its events should not trigger that often, adding overall versatility to the game’s event offerings, so you will likely experience different events across multiple playthroughs. Events in this mod are identified with a numbering system such as "2B" or "C8A". You can reference that number if you wish to report an issue, or if you have a question about the underlying philosophical basis of the event. (E.g. 1-4 are Aristotle’s four causes, C1-C10 are Aristotle’s ten categories, and other numbers pertain to a variety of other concepts in physics and metaphysics as written by Aristotle)
SPECIAL: This mod was built as part of a creatively-presented project for a philosophy class! While only 4 events were necessary for class purposes (1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A), I expanded this mod to include 40 events teaching a much wider range of Aristotelian philosophy.

Inspiration for the mod and source of much of the base philosophical content is from Aristotle’s organon (especially The Categories), Aristotle’s Physics, and Aristotle’s Metaphysics. I referenced The Complete Works of Aristotle, edited by Jonathan Barnes, Princeton: Princeton University Press, 1995.
This mod was created and developed by Emergent. You may use and repurpose this content so long as you make the appropriate attributions. In fact, I encourage you to use and repurpose it widely; it is by sharing, learning, and teaching, with an open mind to new knowledge and perspectives, that we can attain a greater understanding of our world and of each other. Notwithstanding the foregoing, I assert my moral rights.
Thank you to Mohawk Games for building not only a fantastic and enjoyable game, but also a wonderful platform through which to share stories, learn about history, and get inspired.
