Description:

MTV-82 is a Soviet single-sided motor four-axle high-floor tram car, produced from 1947 to 1961. The tram received index 82 at military plant No. 82 (now the Tushino Machine-Building Factory), where its first prototype was built in 1946. Trams of this brand operated in many Soviet cities until the end of the 1970s; in Moscow, their passenger operation continued until 1981, in Kyiv – until 1984, and in Odessa – until 1989. Soviet car drivers and repairmen loved the MTV-82 for its simplicity, reliability and durability. However, the centralized dictate to upgrade the rolling stock to more sophisticated Czech Tatras or domestic KTM-5s put an end to the work of the MTV-82 on city lines. As of September 2015, three MTV-82s remained in Russia in their original condition, without any significant alterations to the basic design.
Serial production began in 1947 at plant number 82 in Tushino near Moscow. Initially, 35 "wide-browed" cars were produced, and since 1948 the plant completely switched to the production of the MTV-82A modification. The following year, 1949, factory No. 82 returned to the production of defense products, and the production of trams was transferred to the Riga Carriage Works. In total, Factory No. 82 produced 453 MTV-82 cars of both modifications.
In Riga, these trams were produced until the middle of 1961 with virtually no structural changes. Since 1961, on the assembly lines, the RVZ MTV-82 has been replaced by a new model of the RVZ-6 tram car – one of the most successful and long-lived Soviet trams. In total, RVZ built 1,707 MTV-82s, and the total production of trams of this brand amounted to 2,160 units of rolling stock.
