Strudeler’s Leaders: Gallienus (Rome)
Play as the reformer of Rome’s cavalry, Gallienus; in Sid Meier’s Civilization VI.
Gallienus was among the many, many Roman Emperors that flourished (or suffered rather) during the Crisis of the Third Century. Though the Syrian King, Odenathus, remained loyal in the east, this did not stop the Gaulish Romans of the west from rising up against the central government in Italy. It was under Gallienus that the usurper Postumus ripped Britain, Gaul, and Hispania from Rome itself. The dozens of revolts, the squabbling Roman pretenders, the barbarians pouring from Germania, the Syrian delusions of grandeur, and the Persian abduction of Valerian did not cause Gallienus to falter. Rather, the Emperor took charge and spent his 15-year tenure in a constant state of war.
