Description:

This mod boosts the income from Tomb King Tier 2 income buildings to 180 and Tier 3 buildings to 460. This mathematically means that progressing the building line is no longer degrading your returns as a player. If you have little interest in financial analysis I suggest you stop reading here, don’t look below the line, and simply think of this as a gold cheat mod for TK. This mod affects the AI as well as the player, and will give all AI TK factions a considerable boost.

………………………………………………..

Upgrading your income building as a Tomb King player is in vanilla a terrible, terrible investment [drive.google.com]. There is very little point beyond Tier 1 in upgrading your income buildings as they are awful investments in the long term. Indeed both Tier 2 and Tier 3 in NPV[www.investopedia.com] terms are negative NPV, value destroying investments if you assume the Tier 1 building’s IRR as your baseline.

The IRR[www.investopedia.com] of a Teir 1 Income Building is around 11.2%, however the IRR of Teir 2 is almost half that at 6.6% and Tier 3 worse at 5%. In other words, Tomb King Income Buildings become progressively worse in terms of Return on Investment as you progress up the tree, with a Teir 3 building giving you half the IRR of a Tier 1 income building.

This mod makes makes the rates of return from investing in a Tier 2 and 3 income building equal to the rates of return you get from investing in a Tier 1 TK Income building (11.2%) when analysed over a 100 turn time period. That boosts the Tier 2 and Tier 3 income buildings considerably in terms of their absolute gold per turn to 180 and 460 respectively, which while on the face of it may seem like a large boost, is simply an equalisation of their IRR’s to the same as the Tier 1 building.

The mod affects the AI as much as the player, and will allow AI factions (as the AI does tend to favour income buildings) a very decent boost. From the player perspective clearly this mod significantly changes the current mid-game balance of Tomb Kings if you decide to invest in income buildings heavily.

This mod is more a fun* thought experiment on a lazy Sunday afternoon with Excel than an ultra-serious mod. It would be interesting to extend the analysis beyond TK to other factions, but I can’t see me ever including this in my main mod compilation.

This mod is save compatible, and can be added and removed at will by the player. Probably not compatible with large overhauls like SFO etc.
