Some history
Mi-2S is an ambulance helicopter developed by the Polish company PZL Swidnik on the basis of the Mil Mi-2 multi-purpose helicopter . Mi-2S (Mi-2S, i.e. samtarny) is a sanitary version capable of transporting up to four patients on stretchers, which are installed in two tiers on the left and right sides of the fuselage. The helicopter has containers with oxygen cylinders, disinfectants and a bag with medicines. Starting from serial number 511940071, a universal lifting seat for an accompanying paramedic is also installed in the passenger cabin. The Polish Air Ambulance (Lotnicze Pogotowie Ratunkowe) received the first two Mi-2S on August 25, 1972, these machines were used in Warsaw and Katowice. Until October 13, 1981, another 49 vehicles of this type were delivered to the Sanitary Aviation, which completely replaced the SM-1 and SM-2 (helicopters based on the Mi-1 ).In the Czech Republic, an air ambulance squad operates Mi-2S, equipped to transport one patient. Until 1995, the Czech Army operated an air ambulance unit in HavLickuv Brod, its helicopters had the call sign “Christoph”. Similar army Mi-2S, painted red, were used by the 11th helicopter regiment of the Czech Air Force at the Pilsen-Line airbase.
Mi-2SR (Mi-2SR, i.e. sanitarno-remmacyjny) is a resuscitation version developed by military specialists on the initiative of the Air Force command and the Medical Service of the Ministry of National Defense of Poland (Szefostwo Sluzby Zdrdwia MON). Operation in the armed forces of the People’s Republic of Poland began on December 12, 1975.
