POIs – UK tourism
Adds 368 UK attractions as specified by ALVA (Association of Leading Visitor Attractions).
This is by no means an exhaustive list – many attractions will be missing, this is a single source list.
The source data can be found on ALVA’s page here [www.alva.org.uk] (uses visitor numbers for 2023).
Locations are manually populated using data from OpenStreetMap and Google Maps. The locations are the best effort estimate: most will be bang on the landmark, others might be in the middle of e.g. landmark park, and others are a bit woolly as the location itself might be strewn around the place.
If a place is wrong feel free to comment with the correct/better location.
Visitor numbers are divided by 365 to get a daily visitor number.
Then, the following demand curves/thresholds apply:
- 5000+ people per day (1.8M+ per year): International landmark
- 2000 – 5000 people per day (730k to 1.8M per year): National landmark
- 500 – 2000 people per day (180k to 730k per year): Regional landmark
- under 500 people per day (under 180k per year): Local landmark
LOD are specified as such:
- Local landmark: LOD level 0
- Regional/national landmark: LOD level 1
- International landmark: LOD level 2
Each UK region has its own colour to slightly distinguish landmarks from each other.
