Craftable turrets for defense!
I did it, I managed to figure out how to make some really awesome turrets even with the limited mod editor! Currently the game doesn’t let you change many things, including unlocking new workbenches via resources. So I came up with a workaround to have the workbench spawn in the overworld.
I also added guard towers that spawn friendly NPCs.
To get the workbench required to make the turrets and guard towers, you just need to start a new map and look around the starting area, there are numerous set spawn locations for the workbench. It might also spawn randomly on floor 0 and floor 1 if you are loading an existing file.
These turrets are animated and functional. While they are fairly strong, anything past a goblin would probably risk destruction of the device at Tier 1. Higher tier turrets exist with enhanced combat capabilities for silver, gold, and the rest of the game. Arrow launching primitive turrets are also planned at some point if there is demand.
The guard towers spawn guards while you are in the area, but if you leave they despawn. Don’t worry, you get a new one every 20 seconds up to two guards so it won’t be long before they are back out and defending.
Currently existing turrets:
Tier 1 – Deals high damage.
Tier 2 – Higher damage, and inflicts weakness while exploding in a one-size radius.
Tier 3 – Even more damage, adds a DoT effect, still inflicts weakness, explodes in two-size radius.
Tier 4 – Damage as expected, adds an improved DoT effect, inflicts weakness, explodes in a three-size radius.
Tier 5 – The ultimate base defense. A dual-cannon laser turret that does obscene damage, multiple DoT effects, inflicts weakness, and explodes in a five-size radius.
Currently existing guard towers (they spawn guard NPCs that are not persistent):
Tier 1 – Copper tier
Tier 2 – Iron tier
Tier 3 – Silver tier
Tier 4 – Gold tier
Tier 5 – Early meco
Tier 6 – Late meco
Tier 7 – Grounder
Tier 8 – Future meco
Guard towers need 10 tiles between them (ideally more) to not prevent each other from spawning guards. They provide yellow light in a 10 tile radius for seeing baddies! Might also help you space them appropriately.
MINI TURRETS! These 5 turrets will be cheaper, shorter range, smaller, and with less effects. However they will do more damage than their long range counterparts, but only to a single target. Want to kill large groups? Big turret. Want to annihilate one guy? Small turret. Tiers 3-5 also emit light! (looks drowned out in screenshot because of this during daytime).
Tier 1 – 10 copper bar to craft
