gm_afterhours
Another map based on film photos I’ve taken over the past few years, this one specifically night-time photography!
CHANGES:
Actually packed the damn club music come on VIDE why you gotta do me dirty like that?
Added ep2/ep1 content so now everything is packed! This should solve the vast majority of missing textures and models now.
Packed ambient sounds better, there were a few missing
(NEARLY) ALL MUSIC FROM THIS MAP AVAILABLE HERE! https://soundcloud.com/quantumdylan/sets/gm_afterhours-ost
gm_afterhours is an exploration map with a handful of areas and secrets, similar to the previous map I made "Places from Film." I’ve learned a little bit more about mapping for this one, so it’s got a proper navmesh built in. Though bear in mind that doesn’t do much good when there’s teleports involved unfortunately, and let me tell you there’s quite a few teleports. Best experienced on foot!
WARNING! Intense flashing lights do briefly appear during a particular spooky sequence, the locked door in the bus station will open after trying the handle and walking away. Entering that door is what triggers the flashing lights!
Map features:
- Packed assets for everything!!!
- Custom textures and sounds
- Proper club bangers (all sounds are contentID safe, cause I made them lol)
- Dev room includes option to disable all fog and fog setting triggers
- Photography gallery!
- An impending since of dread
- Cozy vibes
- Random spawns (if you don’t like where you start, just reload the map!)
- More maze-like non-euclidean junk
- A particular motel
- Lack of dead-ends (there’s only two that I can think of right now, all other areas connect in some way)
- Film photography-inspired minigame
- Working vending machines (just don’t hit em)
- Rainy vibes
- Hopefully the soundscapes aren’t scuffed as hell and are properly packed this time
One last note, there are several areas that utilize fairly heavy-handed black fog to mask teleporting effects, if you’re ever stuck or lost I recommend either reloading the map to get a new spawn or use fog_enable 0 and fog_override 1. Remember to turn off the override when you get somewhere a little brighter!
If you have any issues with the map, feel free to leave a comment and I’ll try and do some debugging/fixing later this evening! I think though after some pretty rigorous testing this should be a pretty smooth exploration experience for everyone. When in doubt, if you’re having texture errors, try mounting CSS, L4D2, and Portal.
Huge appreciation to everyone that tried out my previous map, it’s so much fun making funky little maps for people to wander around in. I hope you enjoy this one as much as the last! I’ll probably try and actually make a somewhat smaller map this next time, I keep letting these things grow a little bit too much lol
