Romaia Hellas

The mod is updated for 1.8.x.

The Byzantine state is the organic development of the Roman empire; it became Greek & Orthodox and in it we find the three pillars of European civilisation combined, them being Hellenism, Roman law and Christianity.

Byzantium is the christianised and Greek Roman empire with Konstantinople as her capital. Byzantium is the state whose eagle is two-headed because it looks both to the east and the west.

This mod has 2 aims:

(1) To respect the base game of Victoria 3 by not touching nations that are not part of this mod’s scope and at the same time allow for a Roman empire start in 1836. Note: base game modified countries’ territory are the following: Montenegro, Serbia, Wallachia, Greece, Ottomans, Ionian Islands & Egypt.

(2) To represent the Roman Hellenes of the Roman empire in a best-case possible fantastical scenario in which the Roman empire of the Greeks is still alive, well and kicking at the start of the Victorian era.

Assumed historical events:

The Roman empire won the battle of Majikert and as such the Turks never reached Anatolia. This resulted in Anatolia remaining Greek & Christian. Later, the empire ousted the remaining Turks out of the middle east.

Changes to the base game:

(1) The Roman Empire is present at the game’s start; named Romaia Hellas.

(2) Perhaps most important; a from scratch economy has been built for the empire by hand.

(3) All hubs within the empire’s starting borders without a Greek name have been given one.

(4) All IGs have been renamed & their ideologies (currently those of the Devout, Landowners, Intelligentsia & PB) were changed to reflect the Greco-Roman attitudes. All IGs have unique bonuses except the Trade Unions.

(5) Custom characters at game start along with military formations for the empire.

(6) The empire starts leading a religious power bloc, named "En toútōi níka" (latin: In hoc signo vinces, english: In this sign thou shalt conquer/By and in this sign, conquer). The phrase witnessed by the first Roman Emperor to be Christian and the Orthodox Church’s Saint Constantine while he was marching with his army: he looked up to the sun and saw a cross of light above it, and with it the Greek words.
