Roads That Matter DeI V1.2
This is a campaign movement overhaul meant for Divide et Impera. It is compatible with all DLC campaigns.
UPDATE 1.2 – I made a mistake leaving tweaks I had made to the campaign over the years that was mostly based on my addiction to playing the campaign on legendary. I removed previous additions like tariff and food buffs. This version is strictly movement based. The only other change is that there are extra armies available at every imperium level. As well as a slight public order buff if you play higher difficulties. Chasing around rebels in winter that you can’t reach until they’re at full strength would be a tough challenge.
What this mod aims to achieve is realistic terrain interaction. Here are some key points of what to expect:
– Terrain movement is heavily dependent on the season and prevailing weather. Spring and summer are your seasons for war, as it always has been. 12 tpy offers a variation of game play.
– All terrain is more difficult to traverse without a road. Where there is no road, there is still a way, however it may be strategically costly. Don’t get stranded making your moves too fast.
– Expansion requires careful assessment of the road network. Capturing settlements that are hubs of traffic can be difficult to hold. You may want to consolidate the fringes of your empire with settlements which are not easily accessed.
– Launching invasions across seas take time, be sure it’s the right move. There are less penalties to make up for the time to keep it a viable option.
-There are slightly more armies to account for the commitment of the movements within the campaign.
– Chasing down enemy armies to finish them off may end up leaving you vulnerable if the timing is wrong. Get used to what your limits are and always pay attention to the season.
– The AI appears to understand the changes quite well. It will use the roads and terrain fairly intelligently.
– Food supply is buffed for early imperium to offset a lack of replenishment.
– There is a significant buff to taxes for the first few imperium levels compared to normal. This is also to contribute to the overall scope of more armies fielded on the entire map.
– Many regions have been buffed or debuffed for movement to maintain a balance. Feel free to leave feedback. Some regions I have to create custom keys for.
– When you occupy a settlement the penalties are less. If this wasn’t the case, you wouldn’t be able to keep up with the revolts.
This is still a beta version. I started it in 2018 but never got around to working out every bug. Thought I would upload it to see if anyone enjoys the change up and challenge like I did.
Known Bugs:
– At times arriving on shore with your army can cause a sudden increase in range. Use this to your advantage, your enemies will!
– A few rivers are impossible to cross, I find it makes the map more interesting.
