Description:

"I think to lose kentucky is nearly the same as to lose the whole game ."
–Abraham Lincoln
September 22, 1861

Welcome to the battlefield of Perryville

one of the deadliest battles of the confederate heartland campaign and in the state of Kentucky. Where roughly about 38,000 men fought 162 years ago. Whoever enlists must be ready to tread the many rivers and hills of Kentucky, and must be able to endure continuous volley fire among other hazards.

Although the state of Kentucky remained neutral during the civil war, the confederacy intended to claim the state as its own and use it to resupply its troops and expand the confederacy’s reach and influence. Throughout the fighting, one Union artillery regiment was nearly wiped out before it was ultimately replaced. The confederacy wasn’t without its own losses either, as both forces lost nearly 4000 men within just five hours.

On October 8, 1862, night fell upon the battlefield at Perryville. During the night, word finally reached Gen. Bragg of the true nature of what lay before him. Rather than facing a small Federal force, he faced Gen. Buell’s entire army, the majority of which didn’t see combat. Weighing his options, Bragg, short of men and supplies, withdrew during the night and, after pausing at Harrodsburg, continued the Confederate retreat by way of Cumberland Gap into East Tennessee. The Confederate offensive was over, and the Federals controlled Kentucky.

(Note: due to hard drive issue I no longer have the file to edit. Sadly, there’s no way i can evaluate bug reports.)

A special thanks to Petersham for showing us how to make these battle formations possible.
