Description:
What happened in 1992

The planned economy collapsed. Ineffective market mechanisms, hyperinflation, and shortages of consumer goods and energy resources became widespread. Former Soviet republics faced the challenges of transitioning from centralized planning to independence, leading to widespread unemployment and economic stratification.

The collapse of the USSR and Yugoslavia resulted in the emergence of new independent states and political upheaval. Ethnic conflicts, civil wars, and separatist movements arose amid nationalist sentiments and territorial disputes. Republics where national identity intertwined with the Soviet legacy were at the center of political struggles. Instability was compounded by problems with legal frameworks, corruption, and a lack of experience in building democracies. Nationalist movements and territorial disputes led to open conflicts. Ethnic minorities and majorities suffered discrimination, repression, and violence. The collapse of Yugoslavia with its numerous ethnic conflicts served as a key example of this situation and had an impact on the countries of the former Soviet Union.
