NEW REVOLUTIONARY BATTLE HOPLITE PHALANX SYSTEM!!! (read below)
YOU MUST ALSO SUBSCRIBE TO "PIKEMEN START BATTLE WITH PIKES MOD" TO GET THE FULL EFFECT OF THIS MOD.

Obsessed with historic accuracy as you will find looking my other mods I am trying to recreate the phalanx as good as the game mechanics permits.I think now we are pretty close.
I tried soomething different.The in game problem with hoplites was that they fought by themselfs and not as a group.Pikes though work as a mass of spears.So i used pike mechanics to hoplites.SOOO…EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE STILL HOPLITES now..

FIRSTLY NOW AT LAST hoplites carry swords and they use them in close combat.
SECONDLY the rear lines continue to fight along with the first line.
THIRDLY if you dissengage phalanx formation and attack they ALL draw swords.

The historic downside to all is that they hold the spear with two hands like pikemen.(in real life they used only one hand..) but the overall improvement i think is so much better that i only use this type of phalanx anymore.
Also like in my other phalanx mod
1) There has been a rebalance of fatigue penalties (now in phalanx formation you tire extra during time even if you don’t move but you hold the formation because of all the pushing or othismos or the strain to be in such a tight spot.).So now it needs much more strategy to keep fresh troops nearby..
2) In phalanx and in pike (much lower values in pike..) formation now you receive a bonus deflecting arrows.(if the value is 25 for testudo you get 15 in phalanx and 5 for pike)
3) Small increase in weapon damage
4) Major flanking penalties
5) Tighter spacing for phalanx units.
6) Small morale penalty while in phalanx (you see beeing a phalangitis was not an easy job at all very tight space pushing and pushed with constant spears flying near your face and stepping above comrade bodies or even sons and fathers.There is a psychological preassure for anyone that fights i admit but while in phalanx this was A LOT more)

While in hoplite phalanx it starts an automated sequence of 7 phases.At first the phalanx starts VERY strong but in each subsequent phase the phalanx looses streangth and fatigue.This makes Battles MUCH MORE STRATEGIC because one must exploit the first few minutes the phalanx is a..tank and later must have fresh groups nearby to support the decaying phalanx (gets fatigue penalties to defence and attack).
Try it i think you will love it .
P.S. By chance something very realistic is happening with this mod.If you click the phalanx button they dont engage immediately in formation but it takes few seconds to do so.So dont wait the last second before enemy get to you to press the phalanx button because he will get you off guard.(this represents the true coordination needed to become a phalanx unit…).

Mods that weaken projectiles may make your phalanxes more strong and cost historic accuracy.
Every major overhaul may or may be not compatible..(feel free to take my tables if you like)
THis mod ALREADY is included to my 300HISTORICALACCURATESPARTA Mod and parts of it to my HISTORICAL_ACCURATE_SPARTA mod so if you have this DO NOT SUBSCIBE to ANY of those may cause incopatibilities.ALSO if you have those YOU DONT NEED THIS ONE.FINALLY DONT USE IN COMBINATION with "more accurate phalanx" mod
