Description:

"The Republic commissioned the Y-wing for clone pilots to take on the Confederacy’s droid starfighters, and last I checked, the droids didn’t win."
―Jon Vander

The BTL-B Y-Wing Starfighter

Developed and built under the Y-wing project for the republic navy by Koensayr Engineering prior to the outbreak of the clone wars, the Y-Wing Fighter-Bomber represented the pinnacle of heavy fighter technology in it’s day, with many examples going on to serve under the later Rebel Alliance and even the Resistance.,

This robust ship features a pair of Taim & Bak IX4 laser cannons, designed to penetrate the hulls of capital ships, as well as two rapid fire ArMek SW-5 ion cannons in a rear turret, able to be fired either by the rear gunner, or by the ship’s droid if necessary.

This legendary bomber also hosted an array of mounted weaponry, including ion bombs and torpedoes, proton torpedoes and even the massive EMP Droid Killer bombs developed by the republic for use against the Confederacy. This heavy armament allowed for small squadrons of these ships to outright destroy enemy capital ships in naval engagements, or to clear entire droid battalions in a few bombing runs.

Functions and Operation Instructions

My version of this ship is fitted with a few extra features designed to help the player knock enemy fighters out of the sky, as well as crush ground targets and bring the pilot and ship back in one piece. Unfortunately this does require infinite ammo, but not fuel or electric, although infinite fuel is advised

Weapons and Defensive Systems

Targeting System:

The Y-wing is equipped with a forward targeting system helpful for making small adjustments, espescially when playing in MP with higher lag. To activate the system, simply flick the switch on the right side of the main control panel, and the system will aim the nose at a forward target within 800m.

Defensive Systems:

The ship is also equipped with an aft radar, the toggle for which is on the right hand lower panel, and the readout for which is located on the left hand lower panel. This radar will inform you if any pesky fighters are tailing you, as well as their range and if they have locked weapons on to your ship, if radar is detected, chaff will automatically deploy if the system is armed.

Gunner Systems:

The rear turret can be switched to radar control for single player, or for greater accuracy if your gunner happens to be laggy or just plain incompetent. A control for this is accessible both from the left hand lower panel in the cockpit, and the gunner’s seat in the rear compartment. The gunner can enter and exit said compartment through a floor hatch.

Mines:

This Modification allows for the deployment of anti aircraft mines from the rear of the aircraft in order to ward off any annoying targets below the turret’s fire angle. The mines are ‘aimed’ by using the rear cameras to the left and right of the pilot, and dropped using the switches on the lower left panel.

Damage Control and Survival Equipment

Damage Control:

Damage indicators are located around the ship, and will show red when a module is seriously damaged, including the left and right engines, the main compartment, and the nose. A fire suppression system for the main compartment can be activated using a switch on the lower left panel in the cockpit. A emergency power switch can also be found next to it, which will switch the ship’s power grid to battery power, and which is not to be used for anything but emergencies. The engines can also be cross linked in case one side fails, providing less power but stable flight.

Survival:

Crew Rifles are located in the aft compartment, and a control for emergency flare and transponder are directly behind the pilot’s headrest, to be used if downed during combat

Miscellaneous

Other Features not mentioned above include the following:

Full lighting control

Welders and other equipment under pilot seat and in rear compartment

Three Hard-point stations for external weapons

Warning systems for dive angle, engine damage, altitude, engine fire and radar lock

simple hud to be used with very advanced targeting system (pipe on dashboard)
