Description:

Chinese Civil War resumed in 1946, following the conclusion of World War II. The conflict was primarily between the Nationalist Party (Kuomintang, KMT) and the Communist Party of China (CPC). The KMT, led by Chiang Kai-shek, sought to reassert control over China, while the CPC, under Mao Zedong, aimed to expand its influence and establish a communist regime. Initial military engagements saw the KMT gaining ground with U.S. support, but the CPC utilized guerrilla tactics and gained popular support among the peasantry. Despite attempts at political negotiations, fighting escalated, leading to significant civilian suffering, displacement, and destruction. The situation became increasingly dire, with implications for China’s future governance and regional stability. The conflict would ultimately culminate in the CPC’s victory in 1949 and the establishment of the People’s Republic of China
