[WOTC] Octopath Traveller 2 WWise MMS Music Pack
Octopath Traveller II has an excellent and extensive soundtrack, with a mixture of high-octane, high-pressure battle tracks and very pretty, calming ‘adventure’ tracks. Additionally, each character in Octopath has their own musical theme which is carried through the game, which means for a given situation, there are a lot of options to choose from which makes it a very suitable choice for use with XCOM2.
When developing this pack, I was very keen to understand how the WWise MMS system functions with a longer term view to hopefully providing some insight and improvements to the system because music modding in XCOM, despite the best efforts of the community, is still pretty difficult.
So with the tools and guides at hand and a spare couple of wekends I set out to create my first music pack and I hope you all enjoy it! I’m overall pretty pleased with the outcome but as always if you discover any issues, just let me know and I’ll see what I can do to address them 🙂
70 Music tracks in total consisting of:
- 3 x Shell Tracks
- 8 x Skyranger (Strategy –> Tactical) Tracks
- 7 x Geoscape tracks
- 6 x Avenger ‘Anthill’ Tracks
- 5 x Squad Select Tracks
- 14 x After Action (Tactical –> Strategy) Tracks (Different tracks for win/loss/soldier deaths)
- 14 x Combat Tracks
- 11 x Exploration Tracks
- 2 x Ending Credits Tracks
My configuration in WWise has single definitions for a playlist of tracks – this is somewhat in contrast to the approach of some other modders so if you use this pack alongside some of the other WWise packs on the workshop, you may find tracks in this pack play a bit less often. This is something I’m looking into with NintendoEats (the author of WWise MMS) – if it is a big issue, let me know.
In general terms, tracks are randomised on each transition – each time you exit from the geoscape back to the avenger, for example, the track playing will be randomised, helping to keep things a bit fresh. The same goes from exploration to combat transitions (i.e. so you won’t necessarily get the same exploration music when you kill the last enemy as you did at the start of the mission). Adjusting this is possible, but it’s a headache and I actually think it adds to the experience.
- Subscribe to the mod and its associated dependanciess
- Find the mod in the steam workshop folder (workshop/content/268500/3299937217) and run the file called "RUNME-COPYSOUNDBANKS.bat" – you will need to run it as administrator
- Launch the game! (Running the batch file creates a link between the mod directory and base-game files so if I then update the soundbanks it will update automatically in your game without you having to run it again!)
- If, for some reason, you run the batch file and still have no music, as a backup, you can try copying the WWiseDefaultBank_WOTC_WWise_OT2Music_Tactical.bnk and WWiseDefaultBank_WOTC_WWise_OT2Music_Strategy.bnk files from the mod’s content folder to the game’s CookedPCConsole folder instead
