Leopard 1
The Leopard 1 is one of Germany’s first post-war tanks, developed by the 1960s.
The first Leopard was designed by the famous automotive concern Porsche, and the German armoury firm Krauss-Maffei was responsible for the production of the new tank.
The first Leopard entered service with the German armed forces in 1965. Soon their mass production began, which lasted until the mid-1980s. Over the years, about 6500 Leopards were built.
The "Leopard 1" tank quickly gained popularity in the European military market, it was adopted for service in many countries around the world.
By the 1990s, the glory of the Leopard 1 began to fade, and the tank faded into the background. It was replaced by the more modern and modified Leopard 2 tank.
In Germany itself, the Leopard 1 remained in the army reserve.
