Pub-AI++ (YABM)
Buckle up, kids. The definitive survivor bot experience has arrived.
NOTE: Any difficulty below Expert will hinder the experience.
NOTE #2: This will only work in singleplayer or locally hosted servers. However it can work on dedicated servers if configured correctly.
Not only is this the ultimate representation of my studies and observations of players in the 12+ years I played Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, it is also the child of the 5+ years I’ve exhausted in experimenting with bots. Five years has passed since I released Survival-AI+ which has transformed into Competitive-Bots+. It’s the grandaddy of forking the Improved Bots mod that was originally made by Ziggy. But oh no no no, you’ll want to disregard any other bot mod you have, because this mod contains the most advanced AI to ever grace the Left 4 Dead 2 community. Any other bot mod won’t work with this anyway, so you might as well uninstall the others and keep this mod. Most of the other bot mods were probably not even updated post-The Last Stand update. Pub-AI++ (YABM) was built from the ground up with compatibility in mind for The Last Stand. [have you noticed the two pluses in Pub-AI++ (YABM) yet?? The more pluses the merrier!]
These bots were researched, tinkered with, and optimized to perfection to behave like your average players in a public lobby. That’s right! You heard it here, folks! These bots are the most realistic representations of humans who play Left 4 Dead. They’re so human they break Asimov’s laws of robotics, which is both exciting and horrifying. I bet you my last 4.8oz of lithium that you will NOT find a more realistic experience of playing in a public lobby anywhere else.
Here’s a nice list of its features:
- Addon uses the obsolete and user-unfriendly gamemodes.txt method.
- Bot IQ has been raised (to roughly room temperature level), matching your average Left 4 Dead 2 players. Don’t worry, they still have brain damage!
- Bots are no longer capable of shooting through teammates without consequences. This means they can now grief.
- Bots are given a choice to simply go AFK sometimes.
- Bots will attempt to killsteal more often.
- Bots can now bot.
- Bots are 300% more obnoxious.
- Free spyware!
The enhanced AI causes more memory leaks. Too bad! Low priority. Not urgent.

P.P.S: I won’t add support for bot-only games (AKA singleplayer versus), as these new improved bots can become AFK for long periods of time thus indefinitely stalling the game. They’re SCARILY good at gri3fing.
