Description:

Adds some Valkyria Chronicles to XCOM by giving soldiers Potentials as they rank up. They may learn to be effective alien killers, they may turn into major cowards who want to go home the second they see someone bleed. And sometimes they may just turn tsundere for people they like working with. Should work with mid-progress games. Doesn’t affect how soldiers gain vanilla AWC abilities.

General Description

Potentials are assigned to soldiers once a mission is complete, if they meet the rank requirements, and they haven’t already earned a potential last mission.

The rank requirements are:

Squaddie for a soldier’s first potential. (This is weighted in favour of it being positive most of the time).

Sergeant for a soldier’s second potential.

And Major for a soldier’s third potential.

Potentials come in two flavours with the default settings, normal that mainly do things like stat boosts, and "extreme" variants that have more mechanical changes.

You can change whether to use extreme potentials or whether the extra potentials (by default, Squad Mechanics and Customization are enabled) should be used or not with either Mod Config Menu ( http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=667104300 ) or by editing XComPotentials.ini in the My GamesXCOM2XComGameConfig once it’s been generated by the mod.

Should work fine with nearly any mod unless specified otherwise.

FAQ

Does this mess with the AWC? – No, the vanilla function of earning another class’s perk is left untouched.

Clarification on the default settings? – Extremes, Squad Mechanics, and Soldier Customization are automatically set to on. Any future variables I’ll add will default to off.

Does this work with Squad Cohesio- – Yes. Yes it does.

How do I change the magnitude of the ability effects?
Ability effects can be tweaked in an .ini named XComPotentialsStats.ini, which can be found at (wherever XCOM 2 is installed)steamappsworkshopcontent268500695216006Config

Is there anyway to manually give a potential to somebody?

GivePotential(soldier name, potential name) will give a potential as long as the three slots aren’t fulfilled.

Soldier name is a soldier’s first name and last name formatted like so: "John Doe"

Potential name is the internal code for the Potential.

PotentialsHelp should generate a list of the internal codes in the console.

This will require enabling the devconsole for XCOM 2, which you can find through Google.
