LORE:

Many years ago, specifically the 2200s and 2300s, a terror loomed from the east in the form of a bastardized American Confederation – A Grand Hegemony claiming the West for themselves.

The 3 major nations of California, despite their bickering, and their history, founded the Triumvirate, led by a leader and 31 representatives from each nation. With the help of the rest of the West, they waged a brutal war against the Hegemony until they were beaten back to irrelevancy.

These nations after the war experienced an economic boom from reindustrialization, due to it being necessary during the war, and from increased trade relations and decided to continue the Triumvirate.

These 3 nations eventually morphed into:
The Junta of Caluforneia – Once a fierce dictatorship ruled by a council of generals, now neutered into an aristocratic republic still clenching to their heraldry.
The Consensus of Caluforneia – An oligarchy which came from several councils and organizations of engineers, scientists, and bureaucrats; a technocracy, having heavy influence on Triumvirate overseen industries in Central California.
and The Alliance of Caluforneia – Having its origins in caravan companies, merchant guilds, and free townships. They are the shining beacon of laissez-faire capitalism and unadulteraded commerce, a tycoon’s wonderland.

And yet now the Triumvirate is a shell of it’s former self, ravaged by revolutions from both excessively authoritarian and excessively libertarian policy birthed from its political shifts, factionalism, and internal struggles as well as in constant rivalry with a Kingdom ruled by a pretender. Perhaps the best thing that could come from it now in its state of faltering – is a good opera.
