Emirates Air Line Gondola
The Emirates Air Line is a cable car operated by TfL linking the Greenwich Peninsula to the Docklands area.
Construction began in 2011, and the project was finished in June 2012, before that year’s Olympic games.
The line operates with 34 gondolas (and 2 in reserve). The funding was partially provided by Emirates airline, hence the sponsored name of the cable car.
The line is viewed as somewhat of a novelty connection, with high fares of £5.00 for a single adult ‘boarding pass’. Usage peaked during the Olympics, and rises during the summer with tourism.
Key Stats:
– Fleet: 36 units
– Capacity: 10 pax
– Speed: 14mph
– Length: 1.1km
– Max Elevation: 90m
Inspiration for this mod came from seeing the possibility of a ‘cable-car’ tag in the code, and the desire to complete the entire London tube map network.
If you are re-creating the line, use viaduct track. A stop time of 1 second best replicates the continuous movement of the gondolas.
