Baltiets (Балтиец, literally "Baltic") was developed by CJSC Transmashholding for use in the northern capital, as well as Nizhny Novgorod and Novosibirsk. Despite criticism and high cost, these trains significantly improved the quality of service in St. Petersburg and are expected to replace many older 81-717/714 "Nomernoy" trains.
