Description:

Magandang araw mga kaibigan!

Have you ever been playing an Asia map mod, like RoA/OE/AEP, and thought to yourself,

"Gee, it is cool that China, Japan, Korea, and even the Java people get their own writing scripts represented in the Coat of Arms Editor. How come the tribes of the Philippine Islands (or whatever we are supposed to call it before the Spanish came) don’t have any of their writing scripts, like Baybayin?"

well…. okay. maybe i am the only one that thought that.

BUT REJOICE, PINOY AND PINAY FRIENDS, for I have created just that mod.

This mod adds the full Baybayin abugida script to the Coat of Arms Editor in CK3.

It includes all traditional characters (called titik in Tagalog) as well as modernized titik.

if you don’t like the modernized titik and diacritics present, don’t use it. I included them for more choices.

Baybayin was used mainly by the Central Philippine languages. It is a member of the Brahmic family of scripts, derived and influenced by Kawi and other brahmic scripts.

A list of languages that used Baybayin is provided below. Pre-colonial, i think it was really only used by Tagalog and Kapampangan, but I am not an expert.

Tagalog
Kapampangan
Iloko (Ilocano)
Bisaya
Sambali
Bikol
Pangasinan

if you don’t know what titik represent what sounds, i advise just googling "baybayin abugida" and google images will give you a legend. it is a very straight forward script.

About Kudlits and Viramas/Pamudpod

The placement of the – and . kudlits changes the vowel sound. The – is a modern kudlit, it is anachronistic to the time period of CK3.
The . kudlit is the traditional one that was used during CK3’s time period.

Titik make a "A" sound by default if no kudlit is placed according to modernization rules.

Modern rules for kudlits

. above titik = "e" vowel sound
. below titik = "o" vowel sound
– above titik = "i" vowel sound
– below titik = "u" vowel sound

The x, or "virama" or "pamudpod" kills the vowel sound of a titik, so the sound is only a consonant, and should be placed below the titik.
All of this is also anachronistic for CK3 as it was introduced by Spanish priests to clarify our languages in the 15th Century.
Before the pamudpod/virama was introduced, people just inferred if the vowel was silent or not from reading it. Use it if you like for clarity.

Enjoy!

This is my first ever mod for CK3. Feedback and suggestions is welcome, but I am also free to disregard it too (;

All titik in the mod was created by me in procreate. I spent a few hours practicing my calligraphy.

All titik is colorable.

Also, i cannot figure out how to fix the category label. if someone could let me know, would appreciate.
