Corrupt Avatar
Want something a little more crazy? Check out this mod by Alterd-Rushnano! This mod basically augments Corrupt Avatar’s abilities to include Chryssalid Poison. You know what happens if your soldiers are suffering from Chryssalid poison 😀
Introducing a powerful late game enemy that borders between the strength of the actual Avatars and Gatekeepers. Corrupt Avatars will only start showing up after you’ve managed to skulljack the Codex.
Compared to Avatars, Corrupt Avatars cannot teleport, but they have similar +4HP regeneration and immunities to Mental statuses. Corrupt Avatars comes with 6 + 1 Unique Custom Abilities, you can see the screenshots for the FX. Corrupt Avatars are usually found in a Pod of enemies – More specifically, Advent Units to make life a bit easier for you.
All abilities are adjustable in the configs if you found it too powerful for your taste.
Spawns a group of 3 sectoids. A free action that has a 3 turn cooldown – meaning Corrupt Avatars will spawn them every 3 turns. It has a global cooldown of 3. The code for this ability is based on RiftKeeper’s Mod by LeaderEnemyBoss, if you’re reading this, I hope you don’t mind me borrowing your code for this ability 😀
A powerful AOE psionic ability that is able to Mind Control ALL TARGETS IN RADIUS with chances of success calculated by Avatar’s Psi Offense VS Soldier’s Will. If you’re unlucky… check out the 3rd screenshot. Can only be used ONCE per Corrupt Avatar with global cooldown of 5. Mind Control only lasts ONE turn.
A powerful AOE attack that has a 50% chance of panicking all soldiers caught in the abyss. Deals 6 – 8 damage. 4 turn cooldown.
An attack that targets one of your unit. Once your unit is targeted, all surrounding allies – and enemies will be damaged by the blast radius. Only the unit that is targeted will slip into Disorientation, allies/enemies hit by blast radius will not. 4 – 6 damage
The least prioritised ability, but also the deadliest. Any ally hit by soul corruption will suffer from PERMANENT RUPTURE by +2 Damage for the mission only, making you a juicy target unless you’re behind high cover. In addition, you’ll be stunned for 2 turns. 2 – 4 damage.
Upon death, Corrupt Avatar will forcefully revive himself as a Zombie variant called "Corrupt Avatar’s Will". It behaves like a zombie, can only use Melee attacks and doesn’t take cover. Corrupt Avatar Will’s HP is 5 less than its live counterpart (Except for Rookie with only 15 HP) and has a fixed 10 defence. It also gains an additional ability called ‘Phantom Claw’.
Corrupt Avatar will ‘teleport’ over to an ally’s location and attack them with Phantom Claw. It can trigger Overwatch. It has 20% chance of stunning allies hit by this ability. 2 turn cooldown. 6 – 8 damage.
All abilities, apart from Corruption ~ Assertion, are guaranteed to hit, so… no flawless missions I’m afraid if you decide to install this mod XD
HP: 25 | 25 | 30 | 35

Armor: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4
– Phantom Vest –
You’re now rewarded for the extra trouble! Once you’ve performed Corrupt Avatar’s autopsy, you’ll unlock a new vest called Phantom Vest repurposed from their Armor that grants you the same – if weaker – passive abilities the Corrupt Avatar has. The vest gives you +2 HP, +3 HP Regeneration, 1 armor and MindShield Ability. Costs you 150 Supplies, 30 Elerium Crystals and 2 Corrupt Avatar Corpses.
– DOT to counter Corrupt Avatar’s regeneration (Bombs, custom classes, bullet rounds!)
– Corrupt Avatars can be flanked – This is their greatest weakness, one rapid fire with 2 crit shots on a shotgun can wither down its health by 3/4!
– Shred (I think this goes without saying)
– Prioritise Corrupt Avatars if possible. – Before their Sectoid spawns go out of control
– Rupture and holo-targeting if possible, especially on Legend due to high defense and ability to take cover.
– Spread out your allies to minimise AOE damage and chances of AOE Mind Control instances.
– Also, you don’t really have to worry about being flanked by Corrupt Avatar, it rarely uses its weapon.
This is a brutal enemy, so you might want to have some player enhancements to balance off the difficulty, however It is possible (If circumstances are in your favour) to defeat Corrupt Avatars with minimal casualties in Vanilla XCOM on Legend (I’ve tried it myself). If you have alien rulers installed, make sure you’ve defeated Archon King (The last ruler) before skulljacking a Codex, else… Good luck I guess XD
If you need some recommendations on Player Enhancements that scale well from early to late game, the best place to start would be Grimy’s Loot Mod and Squad Increases in LW Toolbox. Others that I would include are subtle bonuses like Squad cohesion. I’m currently running Grimy’s Loot Mod and my own custom classes (Because they’re quite op in their own right) + other enemies like ABA, riftkeeper and venator in my current campaign.
Let me know if there are bugs!
